Describing contemporary life through mainstream jazz
A new challenge for Italian pianist Seby Burgio
“Bounce” his first work released under Auand Records,
features Luca Bulgarelli (double bass) and Marco Valeri (drums)

Can you describe everyday life in the third millennium through traditional jazz? That’s exactly what Sicily-born pianist Seby Burgio wants to find out in his new work “Bounce” released under Auand Records’Piano Series. On his contemporary canvas, the 25-year old musician shows mainstream colors made of swing and bop. The result is a fresh, enjoyable music, grounded on the top-notch technique he achieved in his classical studies.

The average day on “Bounce”starts with an invitation: “Follow Me.”He drives the listener on a frantic race in the traffic, among countless accidents, detours and quick leaps ahead. Have you reached your destination? It’s time for you to take a cheerful “Coffee Break”and sip your cup with friends, while an infectious beat makes you tap your feet to Luca Bulgarelli’s (double bass) and Marco Valeri’s (drums) rhythm. There you are, dreaming your “Day Off” away from office deadlines, traffic jams and tech devices, the calm of this track unleashes the trio’s expressivity, making room for a dreamy, graceful mood surrounded by a soft interplay. Time’s almost up, there’s just a quick moment for a playful provocation on “Brush The Cat,”highlighting Burgio’s sound clarity and his fellows’ rhythmic precision.

Past and present mirror effects dot this album –with swing, afro beats and three-four times outlining the world of today. You can also catch a glimpse of a landscape in bright colors: “Etnia”sounds like a festive dance whose origins cannot be traced back. Of course, this experiment couldn’t come without a tribute to some masters such as Thelonious Monk (“Bright Mississippi” and Italian outstanding vocal talent Gegè Telesforo, who asked Burgio to join him on tour. The uplifting, contagious and elegant funk beats in “Gege’s Groove”echo Telesforo’s unique style.
